What the committee stands for
Never a chain. Never a landmark.
Franchises are rejected outright — there's a blocklist, and it's enforced before anything reaches you. So are the places that are already famous. A 4.8 with three hundred reviews is a gem; a 4.6 with six thousand is a landmark, and landmarks don't need us.
Ranked by hidden-gem likelihood, not popularity
Discovery deliberately does not sort by popularity, because popularity returns the greatest hits — which is precisely where hidden gems aren't. The number one result on the map should rarely be ours.
Judged by the people who actually go
There's no editorial gate. You visit, you pass judgement, and the collective decides the rankings. One counted vote per device, so scores can't be stacked. Cafes are never able to pay for placement, a score, or a listing — the moment judgement can be bought, independence is gone, and independence is the entire product.
What it costs you
Nothing, and no advertising — ever. No ads, no analytics, no tracking, no account, and we never ask for your name or email. Your private notes and saved list never leave your phone. The full privacy policy explains exactly what the app does and doesn't send, in plain language.
